Vietnam e-visa - 7 things you should know

Vietnam e-visa (Electronic Visa) was officially launched in February 2017 and has drawn the attention of thousands of foreigners who wish to enter Vietnam. And here are some major issues that all foreigners should know to start applying for an e-visa to Vietnam.

1. What is Vietnam e-visa?

Vietnam e-visa or Vietnam electronic visa (symbolized as EV) has been introduced by the Vietnam Immigration Department since February 2, 2017. This kind of Vietnamese visa is applied and issued online.

An e-visa for Vietnam is valid for 30 days only with a single entry only.

After 2 years of suspension due to Covid-19, Vietnam e-visa has been resumed since March 15, 2022, and follows the same regulations as before Covid-19.

2. Who is eligible for an e-visa to Vietnam?

According to the Government’s Resolution No. 79/NQ-CP dated May 25, 2020, Vietnam e-visa country list consists of the following 80 countries.

Notes:

  • Those who are not included in this list should wait for further updates for a tourist visa to Vietnam.
  • Those who wish to stay in Vietnam for more than 30 days should do a visa run, as neither e-visa extension nor visa on arrival is available at the moment.

3. Applicable Ports of Entry for Vietnam e-visa online

Vietnam e-visa is now available for air travelers, land crossing or cruise passengers. it works well at one of the following 33 entry ports.

You can see that there are several ports that let you enter Vietnam with an e-visa. However, you must enter the country via the one provided on your Vietnam e-visa. Otherwise, you will need a new one to enter the country.

4. Vietnam e-visa requirements

If you are eligible for a Vietnam e-visa, please make sure the following to get the e-visa:

  • A passport with six (6) months’ validity
  • A photo in .jpg format of your full passport data page
  • A passport photo in .jpg format (4x6, white background, without glasses)
  • A valid international credit or debit card
  • An email address for support purposes
  • A temporary address within Vietnam
  • Your entry and exit dates and entry and exit points/airports

5. How to Apply for Vietnam e-visa

It’s not difficult to get an e-visa for Vietnam by strictly following steps below:

  • Open the official website for Vietnam e-Visa Application https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/
  • Upload .jpg images of your passport data page and passport photo
  • Fill up all required info from your passport data page
  • Fill up all required info regarding your trip
  • Pay the e-Visa fee using any of the payment methods offered
  • Receive your registration code and save the number

Tip: Be sure to save your registration number – you will need it to check and download your visa later on.

6. Vietnam e-visa Fees & Processing time

An e-visa for Vietnam costs you 25 USD (per person). However, no matter your visa is issued or not, no matter your visa is right or wrong, this fee will not be refunded.

It normally takes 03 working days to receive the e-visa letter; however, the processing time may be affected by a large number of applicants or public holidays. As such, you should consider applying for this kind of visa 1-2 weeks before departure.

7. Vietnam e-visa validity

Vietnam e-visa validity starts from the entry date provided on your e-visa and ends on the exit date thereon. It can be extended for a further 1 month each time.
